The ESS program equips students to understand and help solve some of our critical sustainability challenges for the 21st century. The program trains graduate students to enhance engineered and natural systems in socially, environmentally and economically sustainable ways.
- Improved marketability: Employers are increasingly looking for candidates with engineering skills and a strong grounding in sustainability principles. Potential employers have indicated a strong preference for students with two distinct degrees compared to students who participated in certificate programs or concentrations in sustainability.
- A deep understanding of sustainability: Sustainable
engineering involves a lot more than just utilizing recyclable materials in your project. A master’s in Natural Resources and Environment provides a holistic understanding of the various dimensions of sustainability and the role engineers can play in implementing solutions.
- Learn systems thinking: It is not enough to design new products, processes, or technologies without also understanding how these designs can shape and also be shaped by human and natural systems. Exploring the interaction among systems is a strong focus area in the curriculum.
- The world is multidisciplinary: You’ll work with students with interests and backgrounds ranging from biology to business, landscape architecture to law, and ecology to education–just to name a few. Their insights and experiences will enrich your learning in the classroom and as you work together on team projects.
